This highly interactive workshop will bring attendees up to date on CMS, HIPAA and AAMC guidelines for medical student documentation in electronic medical record systems. Benefits and barriers to use of EMRs by medical students will be shared. A criteria for good documentation and use of technology with patients will be identified for the purpose of providing feedback to students. Strategies for improving student’s skills at documentation will be shared. As a result of participating in this workshop, participants will be able to: 1.Describe the College of Medicine educational goals for student medical record-keeping. 2.Identify strategies clinical faculty can use to improve students use of technology with patients. 3.Identify medicolegal guidelines for student documentation in the EMR age. 4.Identify strategies to improve student documentation.
