Searching and Accessing Full Journal Articles via PubMed
At the conclusion, the participant should be able to:
1) EXPLAIN when it is appropriate to use PubMed and Google Scholar 2) USE the PubMed MEDLINE interface to do the following:
a. Do an author search
b. Do a search on a topic using MeSH
c. Do a search on a topic by typing own natural language terms into the subject line
d. Limit topic to year of publication, age group, gender, language, and publication type
e. Use the history feature to combine search statements
f. Locate a few relevant articles and display in full “citation” format and “abstract” format
g. Use “find related articles” link to locate additional relevant articles
h. Send selected references to the clipboard for review, printing and/or e-mailing 3) LOCATE full article on topic
a. Follow the links to full articles
b. Overcome obstacles to getting to articles from Science Direct, Blackwell Synergy, OVID, and MD Consult
c. locate an article by using the Maguire Medical Library e-Journals page and when necessary by using Serials Solutions
d. Request an article from interlibrary loan. 4) USE My NCBI to keep searches, share searches, build bibliographies 5) KEEP electronic copies of journal articles in files.
