The Eyes in Children Part 3 of 4
1. The course will review the natural development of the eye and review common eye diseases in children that will be seen by the primary care physician. Emphasis on normal visual development and appropriate screening ocular examinations will be emphasized. How to test for appropriate visual development in neonates and children will be reviewed. In addition, the following ocular diseases seen in children will be reviewed.
a. Strabismus
b. Retinopathy of Prematurity
c. Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis
d. Leukocoria
e. Shaken Baby Syndrome
f. Retinoblastoma
2. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommendations regarding eye examinations for children will also be discussed.
