At the conclusion, the participant should be able to:

1) DESCRIBE the elements/parts of a reference letter (e.g. extent of letter writer’s contact with student, medical abilities, personal characteristics, etc.); 2) EXPLAIN how the categories on the end of clerkship evaluation form can be helpful in writing a recommendation letter for the student; 3) CRITIQUE actual examples of recommendation letters to improve them; 4) DESCRIBE how to respond to a student requesting a letter of recommendation. Questions and answers will allow for audience participation.
