From the Storm of Suffering: Care of Patients at the End of Life

At the conclusion of the symposium participants will be provided with critical information to assist in their study for American Hospice and Palliative Care board examinination. Participants will be able to: 1. Identify key components of the Hospice Medicare Benefit including eligibility and prognostication guidelines. 2. Identify appropriate clinical practice methods to address end of life issues and symptom management. 3.Describe the pathophysicology of pain, principles of pain management, opioid side-effects and toxicity, and adjuvant interventions.
