Learning to Manage: Supporting the Development of Management Reasoning from Medical School to Residency

Define management reasoning as a distinct form of clinical judgment focused on decisions about testing, treatment, follow-up, and resource use. Describe how management reasoning develops from medical school through residency, with specific attention to risk and uncertainty. Identify common points where learners struggle with management decisions in everyday educational and clinical settings. Describe ways management reasoning can be made more explicit in teaching across the educational continuum.
