Pediatric and Depression
Identify core DSM‑5‑TR diagnostic criteria and common presentations of depressive disorders in children and adolescents.
Differentiate depression from normative sadness, adjustment reactions, and common comorbid conditions (anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, substance use).
Implement brief, evidence-informed assessment strategies (including suicide risk assessment) and initial management plans that are feasible in primary care and school-based settings.
Select and monitor first-line treatment options, including psychoeducation, brief behavioral interventions, and SSRI pharmacotherapy, and know when and how to refer to higher levels of care or specialty services when needed.
