Dr. Donna Evans Learning Objectives By the end of this session, participants will be able to: Describe the key principles and structure of the One Minute Preceptor (OMP) model. Explain the rationale and benefits of delivering timely, specific feedback in clinical teaching settings. Demonstrate how to provide effective One Minute Preceptor using real or simulated clinical encounters. Identify common barriers to giving feedback in the clinical environment and propose strategies to overcome them. Integrate the One Minute Feedback technique into routine clinical supervision of medical learners. "Improving Direct Observation of Physical Exam and History-Taking Skills in Year 3 Clerkships". Discuss current barriers and facilitators to performing direct observation in busy clinical settings. Apply strategies to increase the frequency and quality of direct observation of medical students in Year 3. Design or enhance clerkship activities that incorporate structured observation and feedback on core clinical skills. “Adopting the Mentor Mindset in Clinical Teaching”. Differentiate between traditional clinical supervision and mentorship approaches in supporting third-year medical students. Recognize the impact of psychological safety, role modeling, and learner-centered support in clinical mentorship. Identify behaviors and communication strategies that foster a growth-oriented learning environment. Apply practical mentoring techniques to support student development in clinical reasoning, professionalism, and self-reflection during clerkships.
