Introduction to FSUCOM Clinical Education Program and Evaluation of Students:Nuts & Bolts
At the conclusion, the participant should be able to:
1) DESCRIBE the mission of FSU COM and the meaning of key terms within the mission statement; 2) DESCRIBE in broad terms the FSU COM curriculum and the competency areas on which it is based; 3) DISCUSS the respective syllabus and the learning requirements/activities of the syllabus; 4)DESCRIBE the administrative structure of the regional campus and the specific roles of the regional dean and clerkship directors; 5) DESCRIBE characteristics of the students as they begin the clinical learning process; 6) DESCRIBE the structure of clerkships in terms of when the student will be in the learning setting, what the student will be doing, what the clinical teacher will be doing, etc.; 7) DESCRIBE strategies for integrating the student into the patient care setting; 8) DESCRIBE the role of staff in the educational process; 9) LIST principles of adult learning and describe how you will utilize them when teaching a student; 10) LIST characteristics of effective clinical teachers that you most want to exemplify; 11) DESCRIBE how you will orient a student when he/she comes to your clinical setting; 12) LIST characteristics of effective feedback that you feel are very important; 13) In a simulated teaching setting,provide feedback using the ARCH model; 14) DESCRIBE how students are evaluated on the clerkships; 15) DESCRIBE the categories on the FSUCOM student assessment form;
16) DESCRIBE how to locate and complete the Assessment Form on-line; 17) DESCRIBE pitfalls in the evaluation process that can make an evaluation less reliable or less valid; 18) DESCRIBE how to write meaningful narrative comments on the student evaluation form that supports ratings chosen.
