Presenter: Dr. John Agens Objectives: 1. Participants will discuss practical ways to engage students in using the Confusion Assessment Method to determine if there is any delirium in their patient. A case based format will be used to promote discussion. 2. participants will understand circumstances to suggest to students use of a brief cognitive screen like a 3 word recall and clock draw for efficient screening in patients with risk factors for cognitive impairment but who seem to otherwise be functioning well. 3. Participants will compare and contrast benefits of more extensive cognitive screens like the Montreal Cognitive Assessment with its alternatives. 4. Participants will be able to discuss key parts of cognitive evaluation that students can be observed doing to ensure proper administration of the test, using Montreal Cognitive Assessment as an example. 5.Participants will practice advising students on handling difficult test administration situations such as severe visual or hearing impairment. 6.Participants will work with one clinical dementia rating scale for patients with more severe dementia so they can advise students on how to rate dementia when scores are near the floor of performance using standardized tools like the MoCA. 7. Participants will recognize new G codes for evaluation of dementia and some of the requirements for use.
