Florida Combined Otolaryngology Meeting 2024 – Reimbursement Challenges for New Devices & Procedures

The replacement of 'Evidence Based Medicine' with 'Value Based Medicine' has produced a whole new level of complexity and frustration as otolaryngologists are continually presented with innovative and beneficial solutions that face an uphill reimbursement battle. No longer are a handful of well done scientific studies or even medicare approval for reimbursement adequate for assuming that insurance coverage is soon to come. This session will describe the pathways that some of the recent and cutting edge technologies have overcome or not overcome these challenges, and further elucidate the pathway forward to incorporate new technology into the practice. 1. To discuss new technology in otolaryngology in terms of incorporation clinically as well as financial limitations. 2. To educate the practitioner about the methodology from both industry and clinician point of view of bringing new technology to patients.
