At the conclusion, the participant should be able to:
1) OPERATE a PDA effectively: • SYNCHRONIZE the PDA with a wireless network, desktop or laptop computer • DOWNLOAD, INSTALL and REMOVE programs • MAINTAIN the PDA in optimal operating condition • Fully charge the PDA • DOWNLOAD the software to make sure that it is registered and current • DOWNLOAD adequate memory to run programs. 2) USE a PDA for decision support at the point of care • USE medical calculators to do unit conversions and calculate formulas like BMI and due date. • USE drug information resources to find drug information like indications, dosage, adverse reactions and contraindications, perform a drug interaction search, and locate currently recommended antibiotics for specific microbial infections • USE disease quick references to find descriptive information on presenting problems and diseases to include diagnosis and treatment information, related disorders, prognosis, incidence and prevalence. • LOCATE a differential diagnosis list for common chief complaints; identify potentially serious diagnoses in the DDx. • USE a PDA medical dictionary to look up terms and abbreviations • USE PDA to find information on diagnostic test interpretation, normal lab values • USE PDA evidence-based clinical prediction tools. • USE PDA based evidence based medicine resources to locate current clinical practice guidelines, high level Cochrane and InfoPOEM reviews. 3) USE a PDA to document clinical encounters at the preceptors office into the CDCS system and sync them back to the server.
