Objectives: At the conclusion, the participant should be able to:
1) RECOGNIZE that primary care geriatrics students are responsible for determining if patients are on Beers list drugs; 2) DISCUSS empiric evidence for how frequently Beers criteria drugs are implicated in adverse drug events compared to other drug categories; 3) DESCRIBE recent evidence based studies concerning anticholinergic medication and adverse effects on cognition; 4) DISCUSS how to engage a student in a discussion of shared decision making when thinking about initiating or stopping an anticholinergic drug for urge urinary incontinence: non-medication option, targets and goals for each medication; 5) RECOGNIZE factors that promote shared decision making in deprescribing: Patient goals and physician targets for medication outcomes.
