SUMMARY:Neuromodulation & Other Cutting-Edge Technologies in Obstructive Sleep Apnea
DESCRIPTION:A high-level interactive discussion between surgical leaders in the field of Obstructive Sleep Apnea – Drs. Stanley Liu\, Maria Suuma\, and Tapan Padhya\, and the CEOs and technology developers of tools that enable us to diagnose and treat the disorder. Discussions will center around new developments in the diagnosis of OSA and the role Home Sleep Testing is playing in the future for assessing patients for possible neuromodulation. How physicians are incorporating DISE into their practice\, and what recommendations about the best approach and possible pitfalls to avoid during that early learning curve. What have we learned so far in terms of effectiveness of neuromodulation as compared to other modalities from a morbidity and mortality perspective. Surgical pearls from our panelists that assist in patient selection and surgical technique perspective. And finally\, expert opinions on where neuromodulation might be 10 years from now and how technology or surgical approach to implantation look in the future. \nParticipants that attend will be able to:\n1. Describe how Home Sleep Testing may be utilized for assessing patients for possible neuromodulation.\n2. List recommendations for incorporating DISE into a clinical practice.\n3. Discuss future possibilities for technology or surgical approach as it relates to OSA.

SUMMARY:Man vs Machine: The Value of Vestibular Testing in Dizzy Patient Triage for ENT
DESCRIPTION:Failures of care coordination and ineffective treatments waste more than US$175 billion in the USA alone. One of the most challenging problems is matching the right clinician to the right patient at the right time. Dizziness and vertigo exemplify this problem. Symptoms may be caused by illnesses that cross multiple medical specialties\, requiring evaluations by well-coordinated teams of experts to achieve the best clinical outcomes. This study reviewed the first steps of a large project to automate and optimize scheduling of multi-disciplinary consultations for patients with dizziness at our center using machine learniAttendees will be able to discuss how intelligent algorithms can be applied to the automated triage of dizzy patients. \nAttendees will be able to explain the process of how to train and validate a machine learning algorithm.\nParticipants will be able to describe the effectiveness of a commercial algorithm on automated triage of dizzy patients.ng techniques.

SUMMARY:The Clinical Utility of VEMP in an ENT Practice: Lessons Learned
DESCRIPTION:The cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP and oVEMP\, respectively) are clinical tests used to measure the integrity of the saccule and utricle and their associated neural pathways. While VEMPs have a clear role in the diagnosis of otolith impairments associated with disorders affecting the vestibular system\, there are a variety of the methods historically used to stimulate and record these reflexes. This presentation will discuss the differences in VEMP methodology\, clinical utility of VEMP testing in different vestibular disorders\, as well as common pitfalls often encountered when measuring this response. A thorough discussion about the role of VEMPs in the standard vestibular test battery will also be discussed. \nFollowing this presentation\, the learner will be able to…\n1. Describe the clinical utility of VEMP testing across a variety of vestibular disorders\n2. Identify common pitfalls often encountered during routine VEMP testing\n3. Understand the role of VEMPs in the context of the standard vestibular test battery

SUMMARY:Managing Auditory Processing Disorders in ENT
DESCRIPTION:The evaluation of central auditory function in children and adults should be considered an integral part of everyday practice for audiologists\, otolaryngologists and advanced practice providers. Many patients report audiology complaints\, in particular hearing when ambient noise is present or the auditory signal is unclear. Many of these patients often demonstrate normal peripheral hearing sensitivity as reflected on the audiogram. While the audiogram is an important tool\, it does not evaluate the auditory system in its entirety. This presentation will focus on pathophysiology of auditory processing\, as well as the principals behind diagnosis of auditory processing disorders and subsequent (re)habilitation and management approaches in audiology and otolaryngology settings. \nLearner Outcomes:\n1) Upon completion of this presentation participants will be able to understand the importance of implementing auditory processing evaluations into their audiology and otolaryngology practices.\n2) Upon completion of this presentation participants will be able to identify what tests can be used to evaluate the central auditory system.\n3) Upon completion of this presentation participants will be able to identify management approaches in patients diagnosed with auditory processing disorders including therapy and hearing aids.

SUMMARY:Genetic Newborn Hearing Screening: The New Frontier
DESCRIPTION:Newborn hearing screening (NBHS) has been successful at identification of children with hearing loss but is hampered by a high false positive rate and a high loss to follow up. Genetic testing has become essential in diagnostic evaluation of children with hearing loss. We propose that the current NBHS can be improved by incorporating genetic and cCMV screening as part of a ‘comprehensive’ NBHS with the goal being improved identification of children with hearing loss. \nUpon completion of this session\, the participant will be able to:\n1) Understand the strengths and weaknesses of the current newborn hearing screening methods.\n2) Identify the importance of genetic evaluation for hearing loss.\n3) Understand recent advances towards comprehensive newborn hearing screening.
